HISTORY

In 1977, inspired by the First International Congress on Adapted Physical Activity (SIAPA), 11 people representing a variety of countries gathered together to form the "Fédération internationale en activité physique adaptée" (FIAPA).

In 1989, in Berlin, the FIAPA was dissolved and replaced by the "International Federation for Adapted Physical Activity" (IFAPA). This federation still exists and, following its International Congress in Verona in 2005, it will hold its next Congress in Brasil in 2007.

In february 1984, the new Canadian Motor Adaptation Foundation (MAF) replaced the SIAPA, in order to maintain continuity in the field of rehabilitation. The MAF was incorporated in 1984 under the Canadian laws.
